After a hiatus from formal employment and a focus on local shops, events and the community at large, I’m stoked to announce that I have joined forces with Skate[Slate] and will be helping lead and learn with an incredibly talented team. Got another call to be on the Bill Good Show.
As I mentioned in my previous post, my uncle listen to CKNW and I have been familiar with Bill Good for a good portion of my life. I’m stoked to be invited on again. I guess that means I’m either an easy target, on point or the only one returning their calls… as long as it’s not because I have a face for Radio!
It’s one thing to get a call from the media for a sound bite or a quote, but live is a bit unnerving sometimes. Got to be careful with your words or you can get in trouble fast. With something like longboarding, there’s a whole community of skaters counting on me not to blow it any worse then the situation already is.
Ultimately, I believe bans will do nothing, we need a strong public-private partnerships to communicate and educate for success.
Concrete Wave Magazine editor Michael Brook recently contacted me to discuss some of the issues with Longboarding under the microscope of public opinion and the law. Public safety is a concern, but I believe this is an issue requiring open communication and corporation, not extremes on either sides like bans, or skate mobs.
