Skate[Slate]’s Jon Huey in Vancouver with Flatspot

Jon Huey is one of the talented people I get to work with at Skate[Slate]. Jon came up to Vancouver to stay with me and work on the magazine and spent some time at Flatspot Longboards and out in the community while he was here.

I’m personally stoked on this shot he got of me at the Parkade Session we joined in on. Check the article Jon posted on Skate[Slate].com for more photos and his story. Parkades happen weekly in Vancouver and are a staple of our regular community fun here in town. Kamloops Longboard Park Opening With Switchback Longboards

Kamloops, British Colombia opened the World’s First Longboard Park and I had the pleasure of being there thanks to Switchback Longboards and the #SwitchbackAnimals. I swapped runs with Aidan Lynds to cover the filming and he put together the edit.

One of the iconic things in my mind is the black & white photos of Board Meeting over the years, most notably to me are the ones from Jonathan Nuss. Nuss and the Skate Invaders are a large part of my image of the Ontario scene as whole.

I snapped some images for Switchback Longboards while I was there and kept it to Monochrome because it felt right (Album here).

WhistlerLBFest Skate X Shoot Video by Newman Productions

Part of my role for the Whistler Longboard Festival Skate x Shoot event was to ensure there was a video commemorating the event. I was fortunate enough to be able to work with Newman Productions and knew we were going to get an incredible and memorable video.

Brooklyn Workshop Presents Skate x Shoot and Enduro

The Whistler Longboard Festival Skate x Shoot event has been saved!

Huge thanks to Brooklyn Workshop for presenting and Bustin Boards for backing them. Also have to seriously thank Restless, Paris, Road Rider, Loaded, Switchback and Predator for their support. Without their support and vision, this event was dead for 2014.

Flatspot X No Future Orcas Island Adventure

Flatspot Longboard Shop has teamed up with No Future Skateboards to throw a little get together at Orcas Island Skatepark June 30th to July 2nd.

As Mercado puts it in his poster, it’s a 100% no pressure, skating, camping, fishing and drinking. We’ll see!

FlatBack SpotSwitch Go Skate Day Adventure!

Switchback Longboards and Flatspot Longboards are teaming up for a FlatBack SpotSwitch Go Skate Day Adventure! I’ll be ripping around with Mischa from Flatspot and Luke Melo and a rag tag crew in Bussy all day.

We’re meeting at Flatspot in the morning and will be posting spots as we’re headed to them for anyone who wants to meet up.

Bringing Back Whistler Longboard Festival Skate x Shoot

One of my favorite events is the Whistler Longboard Festival and in particular the Skate x Shoot event.

While the core community tends to prefer the DH, the Skate x Shoot puts you out on a rolling, diverse course – the actual Olympic Biathlon track at the Whistler Olympic Park – where you are tested across a variety of riding skills and you get to shoot some guns! Skaters that have come out to the event are from all walks of skateboarding and no one has ever been disappointed, even when it poured rain.

Running an event is not a small task and is not all that cheap. Even for a small an event like this. Unfortunately, the event is in jeopardy because of a shortage of funding and we would all be bummed if it couldn’t happen.

North Vancouver City Fest Fun

Last week was a blur with a stag in Las Vegas to attend. I returned late Thursday for a busy Friday prep for the North Vancouver City Fest happening Saturday, May 3rd.

I really do enjoy volunteering and events. Volunteering always seems to be more rewarding then simply paid work and the people you get to meet and work with share a similar feeling in life. Events have this long lead up with a hammering finale, but then they’re done and you can sit back and breath and enjoy reaching the goal.

North Van CityFest 2014

The North Vancouver CityFest is on again for 2014!

I will be working with our Youth planning committee and sponsors Rayne Longboards, Switchback Longboards and Flatspot Longboards, along with a host volunteers from Vancouver’s Longboard Community to put on another rad event this year – get the details here.
